Storms that thundered through Mississippi overnight left more than 44,000 customers in the state without power Monday morning. In Hinds County, 11,676 were without power as of 6 a.m. this morning.
In Madison County, more than 2,000 customers were without electricity; Rankin County 5,400+. Outages were from South Mississippi to Tippah County along the Tennessee border, where more than half of the customers were without electricity.
The power outages come as a heat advisory was put in place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Jackson area. High temperatures were forecasted to 94 degrees Monday. Power at the Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport has been restored. Airport officials say that despite the power restoration, delays and other descriptions to flight schedules are possible throughout the day.
