An LSU-led consortium of universities, colleges, government agencies and businesses are finalists for a $160M National Science Foundation grant to support energy transition and decarbonization across Louisiana’s industrial corridor.
The Engine for Louisiana Innovation and Transition of Energy (ELITE) team was announced June 14 as one of 34 finalists for the NSF Engine award. NSF will select five proposals this fall. The money would be paid out over 10 years, with each awardee receiving $15M during the first two.
ELITE's goal is to support cutting-edge research, grow energy-specific workforce initiatives and accelerate commercial energy-related technology through directed incubation, small business support and entrepreneurial training.
Finalists not selected for an engine award may be considered for a $1M NSF Engine Development award.
The ELITE proposal also includes Louisiana Economic Development, Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Southern University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Tulane University, Louisiana Community and Technical College System, ExxonMobil, Shell, Baker Hughes and Baton Rouge Area Chamber.
