HATTIESBURG, Miss. - 157 students graduated, and received diplomas, June 17 from Class 58 of the Mississippi National Guard’s Youth Challenge Academy.
For the past 22 weeks, the students attended the military-style academy at Camp Shelby.
The NG-sponsored program gives at-risk youth and students a chance at getting their GED or valuable job skills.
“This has been a life-changing thing for these kids and to see all the support (is) just a wonderful thing to see,” featured speaker, U.S. Rep. Mike Ezell (R-Miss.) told WDAM.
A total of 11,121 cadets have graduated from the YCA since it began at Camp Shelby in 1994. (WDAM 06/17/23)
