GULFPORT, Miss. - Officials evacuated both the Gulfport-Biloxi and Stennis International Airports on Dec. 14 after receiving a "wide-ranging threat” via e-mail.
Officials don’t believe the threat to be credible but “out of an abundance of caution” told awaiting passengers to evacuate the airport - and incoming flight passengers to remain onboard - so TSA and law enforcement performed a security sweep.
An airport spokesperson told WLOX News other transportation agencies in the state received similar threats.
Buses took some travelers to nearby hotels. Some will have to find new flights.
Law enforcement, including the Biloxi Bomb Squad, helped to check both airports for any danger. By 11:15 a.m., the Gulfport airport was cleared, and passengers were allowed to return. (WLOX 12/14/23)
Mississippi officials are investigating reported bomb threats in multiple locations across the state, including Tupelo Regional Airport and in Columbus at Temple Bnai Israel [and Temple B'Nai Israel in Tupelo]. Tupelo officials gave an "all clear" at the airport around 9:21 a.m.
It's unclear if the temple threats and airport threats are somehow connected, reports WTVA Tupelo.
