July 2 history: Civil Rights Act

 Today, July 2 in history. 

On July 2, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signs into law the historic Civil Rights Act in a nationally televised ceremony at the White House.

In 1954: The landmark 1954 case Brown v. Board of Education, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional.  


    In 1776 : 

Continental Congress votes for independence from Britain
In 1881: 
President James A. Garfield shot 
In 1937: 
Amelia Earhart disappears
