In a ceremony at Meridian's Weidmann restaurant, the Mississippi Council of the Navy League named Hospital Corpsman Jung Tai of the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit recipient of the AC2 Whitney Powell Memorial Military Citizen of the Year award. HN Tai gave 929 volunteer hours to the Meridian community in 2022 by supporting the Mississippi Children’s Museum-Meridian, Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience and the American Legion Legacy Run. Tai, who was raised in Taiwan, said it was an honor to serve in the U.S. Navy. Still in her first full year of Navy service, Tai said she's fallen in love with the community and culture Meridian and the Naval Air Station offer. “Everywhere I go, I am very welcome,” she said.
