ARLINGTON, Va. - The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) commended Mississippi's legislature for passing and Gov. Tate Reeves signing into law legislation to ensure the Magnolia State is ready for the future of advanced aviation. The Uncrewed Aircraft Systems' Rights and Authorities Act (SB 1246) will foster a regulatory environment that enables the drone industry without infringing on existing airspace authorities. The Mississippi law codifies that the FAA is the ultimate authority over state airspace and prevents additional regulations that creates a secure regulatory environment in which commercial drone operations can operate. Michael Smitsky, VP of government affairs at AUVSI, said: “With industry-backed legislation now state law, AUVSI is proud to declare Mississippi ‘Drone Prepared'." Mississippi is at the "forefront of states leading the way" in preparing future uncrewed and autonomous flight benefits to communities, said Smitsky.
