LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. – With the groundbreaking of a new, billion-dollar aluminum plant nearby, the landscape of the Golden Triangle's new manufacturing site and prospects of related industries are building in western Lowndes County. Growth is contagious and that's what Golden Triangle Regional Airport Executive Director Matt Dowell is banking on. “We believe it’s (new plant) going to add a lot more jobs ... as well as passengers for our airport," he told WCBI. "It is the economic development that allows us to grow and make more passengers that we get to serve,” Dowell said. Some improvements are in the works. GTRA is building a $12M jet bridge and a new land deal will allow a parallel runway. The jet bridge project is tentatively scheduled to start this summer. The improvements will lead to accommodation for larger aircraft and more amenities - like first-class options, Dowell said. (WCBI 03/09/23)
