ATLANTA - Airbus plans to develop a single-engine instrument flight rules (IFR) capability for its H125 light helicopter. The IFR capability will be developed in conjunction with avionics firm Genesys Aerosystems. Airbus also is hoping to make it available, following certification, in Q3 of 2024. It will come from Airbus Helicopters’ final assembly line for H125s in Columbus, Miss., the original equipment manufacturer announced March 7 here at Helicopter Association International’s Heli-Expo. The H125 is known in the U.S. market as the ASTAR. It is AHI's most popular aircraft with 4,200 various helos operating globally. Integration of the IFR system requires the cockpit to be upgraded and the installation of a new, 4-axis autopilot along with redundant hydraulic and electrical systems.
