MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Members of the Tennessee National Guard’s 45th Civil Support Team (CST) completed a Training Proficiency Evaluation on Jan. 10-12. The evaluation is congressionally mandated validate the readiness of civil support teams every 18 months. The 22-person 45th CST team was comprised of Army and Air personnel from the TNG. Their primary work is with emergency management, fire and police departments and the Department of Homeland Security. Its primary mission is to ID unknown suspected chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear (CBRN) substances, according to Lt. Col. Bobby Rominger, 45th CST commander, and help assess/advise local incident commanders on strategies to prevent the loss of life and property in a CBRN incident. The evaluations involved two short-notice, quick-reaction scenarios. in Murfreesboro and Franklin, that mimic real-world threats. The CST conducts eight full-scale exercises a year, which is why they are evaluated every 18 months.
