NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard was responding to a natural gas pipeline explosion Sept. 8 at Lake Lery, La. The CG received reports of a large fire at Lake Lery and launched of an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew and a 29-foot Response Boat and crew. The pipeline has been secured. The CG is coordinating the response with Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and the governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. There were no reports of injuries, casualties or pollution at this time. (Source: Coast Guard 09/08/22)
ADDITIONAL NOTE: A barge broke loose and struck a natural gas pipeline, according to Patrick Courreges, spokesperson for the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. Lake Lery is about 24 miles SE of Belle Chasse.
