CORINTH, Miss. - The United Steelworkers representatives claimed June 7 that Mississippi Polymers locked out over 100 union workers last week following a breakdown of contract negotiation. Mississippi Polymers said it did not lock out those union workers. United Steelworkers chose to go on strike at noon last Friday, MP reps said, and posted a message instructing members to come get their picket-line assignments. “The agreement with the United Steelworkers expired at midnight Central Time on June 4,” the company said. The union said MP refused to allow workers on the job after they voted down a proposal that would have made changes to their health insurance and job security. (Source: Daily Journal 06/07/21)
