The Navy will commission the Independence-class littoral combat ship, the future USS Mobile (LCS 26), on May 22 at 10 a.m. in Mobile, Ala. The commissioning will be live-streamed at https://allhands.navy.mil/Media/Live-Stream/. Mrs. Rebecca Byrne, the President/CEO of The Community Foundation of South Alabama and wife of former U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne, is the ship’s sponsor. U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) will deliver the ceremony's principal address. Cmdr. Christopher W. Wolff, a third-generation naval officer, is the ship’s commanding officer. Built by Austal USA in Mobile, the LCS was christened Dec. 7, 2019 and delivered to the Navy on Dec. 9, 2020. USS Mobile will homeport at Naval Base San Diego, Calif. (Source: Navy 05/21/21)
