NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard responded to multiple search and rescue (SAR) cases along the Gulf Coast over this past weekend, including incidents in New Orleans and Mobile, Ala., region. In the early evening of May 2, Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report of missing 18-year-old Rob Brent, a student at the University of Southern Mississippi, last seen swimming near Dauphin Island, Ala. Rescue crews from CGS Dauphin Island, CG Air Station New Orleans, Aviation Training Center Mobile were working alongside partner agencies. The CG says searchers have already covered 6,000 square nautical miles. Anyone with any information is urged to call the CG at 251-441-6211.
*Additionally, the CG received an emergency distress alert from the fishing vessel 4C’s located in Breton Sound, La. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of rescue crews. A helicopter crew vectored in a small boat crew, which then took the vessel in tow to Venice Marina.
*On Saturday, Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a medevac request via VHF-FM radio from the fishing vessel Jennifer and David that stated a crew member had fallen and was in need of medical care about 35 miles south of Cameron, La. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was launched, and hoisted the injured person. The helicopter crew safely transferred the member to awaiting emergency medical services in Lake Charles, La., for further medical care.
*On Friday, CG Sector Mobile received a radio call on VHF radio from crew aboard a commercial fishing vessel stating they were disabled near Curfew Island, about 58 miles south of Gulfport, Miss. A CGS Venice small boat crew safely towed the disabled vessel to Venice Marina with no reported injuries. (Source: Coast Guard 05/03/21)
