NEW ORLEANS - The Coast Guard medevaced a 17-year-old mariner May 8 near Barataria Bay, La., and transported him to Plaquemines Medical Center reportedly with slight injuries to his arm and knee. The recreational vessel, with two people on board, had struck a piling near Barataria Bay and ejected the teenager from the boat. A Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew responded, with a rescue swimmer, hoisted the passenger and transported him to the hospital. The vessel and operator were towed to a marina. The operator reportedly suffered a minor back injury. (Source: Coast Guard 05/08/21)
* Prior to the above weekend recovery, the CG rescued three people from a sinking vessel May 6 near Black Bay in Louisiana. The three people on board were safely rescued without injuries. reported medical concerns. CG Sector New Orleans received a report around 11 p.m. that the fishing vessel King Dang was taking on water in the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet with three people on board. A CG MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew and 45-foot Rescue Boat crew responded. The helo crew hoisted the trio on board. (Source: 05/06/21)
