WEST POINT, Miss. - Navistar Defense LLC, the military vehicle manufacturer, is investing $8M to upgrade its facilities here, and with plans to add 500 jobs. Headquartered in Melrose Park, Ill., Navistar manufactures and sustains tactical wheeled and commercial off-the-shelf military vehicles for the U.S. government and NATO allies. The decision to invest in its West Point operations is part of its commitment to establish a long-term presence in Mississippi. Navistar has contracts in place to maintain long-term sustainability in Clay County. Navistar has built and delivered thousands of mine-resistant, ambush-protected armored vehicles and variants of it to the U.S. military and allied nations. The plant's large capacity will enable the firm to "build on our core military vehicle business and offer the potential to manufacture a variety of additional products,” said Navistar Defense CEO Ted Wright. (Source: Daily Journal 09/08/20) Golden Triangle Note: Meryl Fisackerly, VP of Economic Development for the Golden Triangle Development Link, said good things are on the horizon for Clay County. The county has been severely hampered with unemployment. In April, the unemployment rate was 20.3%. So, this is very good news for the Golden Triangle-Clay County residents.
