3 MS lawsuits vs United Furniture

JACKSON, Miss. - Attorney Philip Hearn has filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of 32 former United Furniture Industries (UFI) employees in Amory. Two additional suits have also been filed. Hearn, who practices labor and employment law, filed the lawsuit on the day the company terminated more than 2,700 employees in Mississippi, North Carolina and California. The lawsuit claims UFI violated the WARN Act, which requires firms to provide 60-day notices ahead of closing a facility or going out of business. The last WARN filing in Mississippi was in June when the company announced it was laying off 171 employees in Amory. The WARN Act is designed to give workers time to seek other employment.
