Batesville, Miss., aldermen have given approval for the installation of automatic license plate readers for selected intersections in the city. The information gathered from passing vehicles will be used to determine insurance and for ticketing owners via mail.
SECURIX made the proposal last month and it was approved by a unanimous vote.
The system will not be equipped to record speeding or failure to stop at red lights, features that are not allowed by Mississippi law in general.
