Large scale drill on Pickwick Lake

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. - The Coast Guard, state and local first responders are scheduled to conduct a large-scale mass rescue drill on the Pickwick Lake near the Pickwick Dam in the morning of Nov. 16. 

The purpose of the drill is to enhance maritime incident response for both law enforcement and fire/rescue agency personnel who may respond to a maritime incident occurring along the Tennessee River regional area. 

The drills will consist of a wide range of boat tactics and emergency response procedures from various agencies.

The main boat ramp at Pickwick Landing State Park will be closed to the public starting at 6 a.m. until the drill is over. 

Among the agencies participating include: Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, Hardin County Fire and Sheriff's offices, Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office, Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office, Florence Police Department, Tennessee State Parks, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the Tennessee Valley Authority Police, Hardin County Emergency Management Agency, Hardin County EMS, Tishomingo County Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. (Coast Guard 11/15/23) 

Pickwick Lake is one of the few lakes in the United States to be located in 3 different states. Hardin County, Tenn., is about 126 miles NE of Oxford, Miss.
