Mississippi's Capitol City of Jackson ranked second among the Top 20 cities with the greatest declines in population over five years between 2017-22, according to a SmartAsset study.
The study examined 344 U.S. cities that had a population of 100,000 or higher in 2022 based on a U.S. Census Bureau’s 1-Year American Community Survey.
The report found that Jackson's population experienced a decline of 12.69% in its populace from 167,250 in 2017 to 146,019 in 2022.
Women of Jackson made up the majority at 53.46%.
Among the Top 20 were #10 - Birmingham, Ala. (-7.7%); #14 Shreveport, La. (-6.34%); and #18 New Orleans (-5.99%)
