The Coast Guard rescued a mariner from a sailing vessel taking on water on Dec. 6 about 63 miles south of Marsh Island, La. CG Sector New Orleans received a cellphone call from the owner of the vessel, Bad Influence, stating it had lost power and was taking on water. The CG issued an urgent marine information broadcast, directed the launch of a CG Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and diverted a CG Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas, HC-144 Ocean Sentry crew to assist. The helicopter crew arrived and safely hoisted the mariner, who had a minor knee injury, and took him to Harry P. Williams Memorial Airport in Patterson, La., in good condition.
