Navy. Cmdr. Brian Bourgeois, who headed up SEAL Team 8, was injured on Dec. 4 when he fell undergoing fast-roping training from a helicopter. He died Dec. 6 at Norfolk (Va.) Sentara General Hospital. The cause of his fall is under investigation. KPLC-TV is reporting Bourgeois has family in the Lake Charles, La., area. He was a four-year member of the Navy football team and earned three varsity letters. The Navy football team will honor Bourgeois on Dec. 11 at the Army-Navy game in Philadelphia. The team will run out with a SEAL Team 8 flag along with the traditional American, Navy and Marine Corps flags. There will be a #13 home blue jersey adorned with two SEAL Team 8 patches placed prominently on the Navy sideline. Wide receivers Michael Salisbury and Jayden Umbarger will wear SEAL Team 8 patches on their uniforms. Earlier this year, Bourgeois gave those patches to Navy wide receivers coach Mick Yokitis, a 2006 Naval Academy graduate. Fast roping is often used by SEALs to quickly deploy when a helicopter is unable to land, according to the Navy.
