President-elect Joe Biden formally confirmed that U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.), a national co-chair of the campaign, will leave Congress to serve as a senior adviser to the president and director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. Richmond, a former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, is expected to be one of the highest-ranking Black officials in Biden’s White House.
