UPDATE: Mississippi was one of several state capitols - Kentucky, Michigan and Georgia - that received bomb threats Wednesday.
A lockdown was lifted at the Mississippi State Capitol after the all-clear was given before 11 a.m. No explosives or suspicious equipment was found.
All four state capitols received an e-mail notice titled, "Explosives inside of your State Capitol." (WAPT 01/03/24)
JACKSON, Miss. - Capitol police responded Wednesday morning about 6: 45 to a report of "suspicious activity" in and around the Mississippi State Capitol. Bailey Martin, with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, confirmed that a bomb threat had been received.
The building was on lockdown. according to Capitol Police Chief Bo Luckey.
Multiple law enforcement agencies had several streets blocked off around the Capitol, and police dogs were seen sniffing around outside the building.
"Anyone conducting business at the Capitol should confirm delays regarding business hours for the day or visit legislature.ms.gov for updates," Martin said.
Legislators will not be meeting for the second day of the 2024 legislative session.
It appeared that some people had been evacuated from the building. Additional information has not been released. (WAPT 01/03/24)
