JACKSON, Miss. - Bitter cold Arctic air is on the way to Mississippi.
Frigid air will seep into west-central Mississippi on Sunday. It will be slow to move in, but Arctic air will get a push late on Jan. 15, which will set the stage for several days of bitter cold.
A round of light wintry precipitation can be expected Monday afternoon with a mixture of light freezing rain, sleet and perhaps snow. At this time, no major accumulations are expected.

Temperatures will struggle to reach 40 degrees on Sunday. North of Jackson will be below freezing, while the metro area will be in the mid-30s and south Mississippi in the 40s.
By Monday evening, the frigid air will surge to the south, and temperatures will drop to the upper teens and low 20s.
Highs Tuesday will remain in the 20s, and Tuesday night drop to 12 to 18 degrees across the area.
After a long period of sub-freezing weather, temperatures will rise above 32 degrees by Jan. 17.
After a slight moderation in temperatures late-week, another surge of frigid air is expected for next weekend. (WAPT 01/13/24)
