SUMTER COUNTY, Ala. - Enviva Biomass, a major producer of sustainable and renewable energy, has announced plans to restart production of a $180M wood pellet plant during the first half of 2022. The plant will be the largest wood pellet plant in the country, according to the business, and will be located at the Port of Epes (Ala.) Industrial Park. The construction phase - 12-to-15-months - will employ up to 400 people. Once completed, Enviva expects about 100 full-time jobs, Rick Frederick, Enviva Biomass community relations manager, told WTOK-TV. The project is also expected to generate an estimated 180 more jobs in logging, transportation and local services in the West Alabama-East Mississippi region. The facility would initially produce 700,000 metric tons of pellets per year, though production may increase to 1.15M tons a year. (Source: WTOK 11/19/21) The Port of Epps Industrial Park is located at Livingston, Ala., about 45 miles NW of NAS Meridian, Miss. Enviva initially planned to start the project in 2019, but the pandemic put plans on hold.
