Hundreds of Ole Miss students gathered in the Grove for a snowball fight at 1 p.m. Feb. 15 that, 45 minutes later, led to rushing Vaught-Hemingway Stadium where at least two were charged with trespassing. A message organized Sunday via GroupMe called for members to add “everyone” to the group in announcing the snowball fight. The message garnered over 3,500 members. “We’re trying to make this snowball fight the biggest ever in Mississippi,” read one message. Few attendees followed local COVID guidelines. The atmosphere was similar to football-day tailgating. “It’s a fun thing to do,” an anonymous student said, “since we didn’t get tailgating" (in the fall). Between 35-40 got inside the stadium before University Police showed up. “The sirens came, and everybody literally fled like roaches,” one student, who was cited said.
