JACKSON, Miss. - Mississippi State Department of Health’s “Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children” rolled out a pilot program Feb. 1 in Forrest and Lauderdale counties to allow participants to use an eWIC card at grocery stores and pharmacies. Current participants must present a voucher at a designated food warehouse in those counties. MDHS’ WIC program is aimed at providing nutrition education, breastfeeding support and supplemental food for eligible infants, children up to 5 years old and pregnant, post-partum and breastfeeding women. Program participants in Forrest and Lauderdale will begin receiving the eWIC cards during their scheduled monthly appointments.
