President Biden approved Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves' request for federal assistance on Oct. 23 to help 19 counties affected by Hurricane Ida, state officials say. Mississippi Emergency Management Agency officials estimated the counties would received about $22.5M for damages when Ida swept through the state on Aug. 29. Public assistance was approved for Amite, Claiborne, Copiah, Covington, Franklin, George, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lawrence, Lincoln, Pearl River, Pike, Simpson, Walthall, Wayne and Wilkinson counties. The public assistance will help support local governments and some non-profits during the recovery process with debris removal, life-saving emergency protective measures and restoring public infrastructure.
