Sewer work OK'd for Prairie Belt

WEST POINT, Miss. - Work will begin in early November on the installation of sewer lines on 138 acres of the Prairie Belt Powersite, which will turn it into a “shovel ready” industrial site. In a Sept. 29 meeting, Selectmen gave the thumbs up to the DNA Construction (HQ’d in Washington, Mich.) low bid of $500,959 to lay sewer pipe on a portion of the industrial site. West Point’s contracted engineer, Stanley Spradling, who designed the project, said the work should be finished in the second quarter of 2021. The site has electric, water and natural gas service, meaning that the sewer line infrastructure will make it “shovel ready," according to Golden Triangle Development LINK CEO Joe Max Higgins, who heads industrial recruitment for the region. In an e-mail to The (Columbus) Dispatch, Higgins said the site is currently a finalist for a "large processor" that is expected to decide where it will locate in the "first or second quarter" of 2021. A portion of the Prairie Belt Powersite is home to a Yokohama Tire Company plant. Once the 138-acre tract south of Yokohama Road is outfitted with sewer infrastructure, it will leave 332 acres of the site, north of the road, undeveloped, said West Point Mayor Robbie Robinson.
