MS native 1st SpOC commander

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. - Ocean Springs, Miss., native, Maj. Gen. Stephen N. Whiting was promoted to lieutenant general and named commander of the U.S. Space Force’s first Field Command - Space Operations Command (SpOC) - at Peterson Air Force Base, ColoWhiting is an Ocean Springs High School graduateSpOC is responsible for organizing, training, and equipping fielded space forces who will execute space war-fighting operations for combatant commanders, coalition partners, the joint force, and nation. SpOC is the first of three Space Force Field Commands, including Space Systems Command and the Space Training and Readiness Command. Whiting had been serving as deputy commander of Space Force HQ. “He is the right leader to become the first commander … and to accelerate the transformation of space operations,” said Space Force Chief of Space Operations Gen. John “Jay” Raymond.
