One of five Department of Defense medical assistance teams will be deployed to Lafayette, La., according to Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby, in response to the latest coronavirus surge and at FEMA’s request. DoD identified five medical teams to support efforts around the nation. Each team will have about 20 Navy medical personnel, including doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists, and will support Ochsner Lafayette General hospital in Lafayette. OLG currently has more than 150 COVID-19 patients. A U.S. official told ABC News that the troops are expected to arrive Aug. 18.
