Airbus confirms 3rd line at Mobile

UPDATE - May 9

Airbus officially confirmed May 9 it will add a third aircraft assembly line at its Mobile, Ala., facility at Brookley Field over the next few years. The plans also call for an addition of more than 1,000 jobs for the new production line. The news also included new training programs operated by Bishop State Community College, which includes a new Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center on campus, and Baldwin Count public schools. Airbus assembles A320-family jets at four locations around the world. The new ramp-up plan, according to Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury, would mean a new Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Mobile, alongside the one that already assembles A320 jets and a newer one for the smaller A220 aircraft. Jeff Knittel, Airbus Americas Chairman, projected a groundbreaking for the FAL in the Quarter 1 of 2023, with start of production in early 2025. An Airbus official also said that, despite recent Pentagon signals, he thinks Airbus will get a shot at an Air Force tanker contract that could mean a fourth assembly line for the Port City.
