Prez honors Tuskegee Airman

President Donald Trump honored Tuskegee (Ala.) Airman Charles McGee, 100 years old, during the State of the Union address Feb. 4, hours after pinning honorary stars on McGee’s shoulders in the Oval Office. McGee was honorarily promoted from colonel to brigadier general in the 2020 defense policy bill. The Air Force legend served three decades in uniform, launching his career in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He flew in WWII, Korea and the Vietnam wars, and earned a record 409 combat missions, more than any other pilot in the three wars. (Source: AF Magazine 02/05/20) Reps. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Mark Pocan did not stand after the President recognized McGee. Most lawmakers in attendance gave McGee a standing ovation, but the trio remained seated.
