CAMP SHELBY, Miss. - Perry County, Miss., native and University of Southern Mississippi graduate Colonel William "Lee" Henry is the new commanding officer of the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center. He's been in military service for more than 31 years and comes to Shelby from being director of military support for the Mississippi National Guard. He relieved out-going commander Col. Rick Weaver, who has been assigned as director of the construction and facilities management office for the Mississippi National Guard in Jackson. (WDAM 12/01/22)
Camp Shelby is primarily located in portions of Perry, Forrest and Greene counties in south Mississippi. The training center was established in 1917 in support of mobilization during WWI and has served almost continuously since as a training site for the Reserve and active-duty Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force. The training site consists of a mix of State, Department of Defense, and U.S. Forest Service lands in the DeSoto National Forest
