An early morning ammonia leak at the CF Industries complex in western Ascension Parish, La., forced the closure of Donaldson Primary School and the shutdown of two local highways for more than five hours Dec. 1. The leak was reported about 6:30 a.m. when a flange failed on an ammonia storage tank in a loading area at the CF complex, company and state officials said. Students/and staff of the school (of about 460 elementary children) was moved classes to another public school in Donaldsonville a few miles SW of the plant, school officials said. Officials said the leak has been contained and the area given an all clear. (NOLA.com 12/01/22)
