Two Air Force bases, including one along the northern Gulf Coast, recently signed deals for facial recognition technology to verify people coming on base. It’s a move to increase the physical distancing during security checks during the coronavirus pandemic. The AF awarded the TrueFace firm Phase II Small Business Innovation Research contracts to install its technology at Eglin AFB, Fla., and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ. The system is called “frictionless access control.” Security personnel do not need to be present for the checks, which can verify a face within two seconds. “A year ago, facial recognition was a ‘nice to have’ for these bases,” said CEO Shawn Moore. Now, it’s become more of a necessity, he said. (Source: Scoop 11/16/20) TrueFace is headquartered in Dawsonville, Ga., which is about 60 miles NE of Marietta, Ga.
