Hot potential GT projects

East Mississippi’s Golden Triangle continues to be a region for continued industrial growth, even during a pandemic, according to Golden Triangle Development LINK CEO Joe Max Higgins. Higgins, speaking at a Nov. 14 Starkville board of aldermen work session, presented an update on potential projects, including at the North Star Industrial Park under construction at the intersection of Highways 389 and 82. Two months ago, the Tennessee Valley Authority designated the Golden Triangle region a Rural Certified Community, the first multi-county region to receive that designation, which recognizes preparedness for industrial development and investment over the past three years.  "We've got a limited amount of resources and we don't want to recruit companies that don't move the needle a little bit," Higgins said. Starkville-based Camgian Microsystems, a defense software company  operating from Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park, aims to create 40-to-50 engineering jobs, he proclaimed. Creating six-figure jobs in a city like Starkville is definitely "going to move the needle," Higgins said. He also noted that an automotive company expanding into the aerospace industry is looking at multiple potential locations in the Golden Triangle, including North Star and the Lowndes County Port. The unnamed firm would invest between $40M-to-$50M as many as 200 jobs. Additionally, five companies in the solar power industry, which Higgins said is "just nuts right now" due to demand, are looking at potential sites in the Golden Triangle, including in Oktibbeha County north of Starkville.
