Laptop simulator aids pilot trng

A simulation program that can be installed on desktop computers and laptops, the Joint Immersive Training System (JTS), is being used to support pilot training. Generally, pilot flight instruction involves a combination of simulators and actual flying, said Air Force Lt. Col. Eric Frahm, a program manager for the Defense Innovation Unit. The shortage of pilots throughout the defense department has limited the number of flight instructors for one-on-one training. Also, it’s cost prohibitive to build more simulators at a cost much akin to an actual aircraft. because each one costs about as much as an actual aircraft. While JTS isn't meant to replace simulators or flying, it promises to augment existing systems and accelerate the pace of training, significantly reducing the cost to train new pilots. (Source: DoD 12/08/20) Ultra-Low Cost Simulation Program Augments Pilot Training > U.S. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE > Defense Department News
