Congress approved a $2.3T funding package consisting of a $900B end-of-the-year coronavirus stimulus bill attached to a $1.4T omnibus spending bill to fund the government through Sep. 30, 2021. $23.3 billion is provided in the bill to procure 10 Navy ships, including two DDG-51 guided missile destroyers, two Virginia Class Submarines, one Columbia Class Submarine, one Frigate, two towing salvage, and rescue ships, one Expeditionary Fast Transport, and one amphibious transport dock. Included in those funds is also $500M for an LH9 amphibious assault ship (LPD) and $73 million for advance procurement for one Expeditionary Sea Base. Gulf Coast Note: Huntington Ingalls shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Miss., is building the entire LPD 17 San Antonio class of ships. Gulf Island Shipyards of Houma, La., received a $129.9M contract modification earlier this year for construction of two additional towing, salvage and rescue ships (T-ATS). In June, HII-Pascagoula was awarded a $936M contract for the construction of an additional destroyer.
