Record COVID cases; no ICU beds

The four-county Golden Triangle (GT) of East Mississippi saw record-breaking daily COVID-19 daily case counts spike to 658 new cases over the past week, according to the Mississippi State Department of Health’s (MSDH) website. Mississippi shattered its record of COVID-19 daily cases with 2,746 new cases. Lowndes County lead the region in new COVID-19 cases. As of Dec. 9, the latest data available, Lowndes had seen 3,002 total cases, adding 391 last week - the biggest increase recorded since March. Oktibbeha County had seen 2,750 cases. Clay County saw 1,043 cases. Noxubee had 786. Clay County added 72 new cases - the second consecutive week where the number of new cases exceeded 70. In a Tweet on Dec. 11, Dobbs said beginning Dec. 15 through Dec. 23, all elective procedures that require hospitalization must be delayed statewide.
