‘Doerbirds’ have new flight leader

NAS WHITING FIELD, Fla. - Coast Guard Cmdr. Edward W. Ahlstrand relieved Navy Cmdr. Wesley A. Barnes as the 57th commanding officer of the “Doerbirds” of Training Squadron Two (VT-2) above Whiting Field on Dec. 4. The squadron is one of three fixed-wing aircraft training squadrons under Training Air Wing Five. After landing, the officers completed the official ceremony outside of a base hangar. (Source: NAS Whiting Field, 12/09/20) From 2014-17, Cmdr. Ahlstrand was assigned to the HC-130H Training Division at the Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Ala., as Chief of Training. He earned a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Alabama, and a Master of Arts degree with Distinction from the Naval War College.
