ABERDEEN, Miss. - The Port of Aberdeen has become important facility along the Tenn-Tom Waterway, especially after the city started making rail improvements in 2021 - upgrading weight scale, finishing dock platform and adding an administrative building.
Recently, the Mississippi Department of Transportation provided more than $500K to help build a secondary rail spur at the port.
It was among four North Mississippi ports to receive funding. Aberdeen, Yellow Creek, Itawamba and Lowndes counties' ports will share more than $1.9M to make various improvements.
The Aberdeen rail spurs will allow local industries to connect with the Kansas City Southern Railway and Waterway. The rail spurs also put Monroe County in a positive light for industrial expansion.
The Port of Aberdeen is primarily key to Tenn-Tom shipments of wood and petroleum. (WTVA 08/03/23) Port of Aberdeen receives roughly $538,000 for rail spur | News | wtva.com
