The Louisiana Board of Commerce and Industry approved property tax breaks for three industrial projects that — should they come to fruition — aim to reduce the state’s carbon footprint.
* Proximity to industry dangers: Here's a reminder how close many south Louisiana residents live to industry - and the possible dangers of proximity. Recently, it came via an ammonia leak from the Thompson Packers meat packing plant in the Slidell area. It caused a one-mile radius for residents to "shelter in place" as hazmat first responders were called out.
* In real estate news, there was additional confirmation that home price gains in Louisiana are slowing. Adam Daigle reports that house price growth in the state slowed to 0.4% in the second quarter, given the wild gains seen during the COVID-19 pandemic when supply dried up and actual sales slowed to a trickle.
