WH OKs assist to MS counties

JACKSON, Miss. - The White House has approved Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves' request for individual and public assistance following 19 tornadoes that hit the state in June, the governor's office announced Aug. 12. 

The governor's office said the tornadoes impacted 16 counties: Claiborne, Copiah, Covington, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lawrence, Leake, Neshoba, Newton, Rankin, Scott, Simpson, Smith, Wayne and The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. 

Residents in Jackson and Jasper counties who sustained losses in the June 14-19 severe weather can now apply for assistance by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585. (WAPT 08/12/23)
