To be or not to ... HB 1020?

JACKSON - Hinds County Chancery Judge Dewayne Thomas dismissed a lawsuit that challenges a new law dealing with appointment of judges here in the capital city and county, but a separate lawsuit remains alive in federal court. Judge Thomas ruled that the HB 1020 legislation does not violate the Mississippi Constitution. Three Jackson residents' attorney has appealed the decision. 

On May 12, U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate temporarily blocked the appointment of four judges for Hinds County Circuit Court. Wingate set a May 22 hearing to consider extending his order.
