MSU initiatives & partnerships

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State University's Advanced Research and Development Corporation (ARDC) was one of 40+ unique teams to be awarded $1M grants from the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Engines program. 

The MSU-led project, dubbed SmartTech Mississippiis designed to advance regional manufacturing ecosystems by develop and integrate autonomous technologies that position Mississippi to capitalize on technological advances in manufacturing and enhancing national industrial competitiveness. 

MSU ARDC is non-profit created to promote, develop and administer enterprises that arise from research or technological innovations at the university. 

The initiative brings together partners from industry, academia, economic development, state and communities to improve productivity, develop new technologies, up-skill the workforce, fuel startups, attract new industries and help existing industries grow. MSU, Toyota partner w/ smart wearable technology

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State University, Toyota Mississippi and Liquid Wire Inc. are partnering on applied research for the use of smart wearable technology to improve workplace safety and aid in the prevention of injuries. The collaboration was announced May 11 at the MSU Athlete Engineering Summit. As part of the project, MSU’s interdisciplinary Athlete Engineering research group will work directly with the auto-manufacturer to implement and assess Liquid Wire wearable technologies inside its facility, providing new insights that Toyota can use to improve job performance and identify potential injury risks. 

Reuben Burch, MSU associate professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering, says wearable technologies have been used in collegiate and professional sports, their use in industry has been limited. 

"Wearables and other technologies that monitor human performance have tremendous potential to identify injury risks before they become a larger issue,” he said. Toyota Mississippi has 2,400+ employees and have produce 2M behicles produced to date.
