Presley awakes to Dem nomination

Mississippi's Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley awoke Feb. 17 as the Democrat nominee for governor in the November general electionThe executive committee of the Mississippi Democratic Party ruled that neither of Presley’s opponents in the August primary - Gregory Wash and Bob Hickingbottom - had met eligibility requirements to run for governor. The party found that neither had followed state law: Candidates are required to file statements of economic interest with the Mississippi Ethics Commission. Presley will likely face incumbent Republican Gov. Tate Reeves in the general election. Reeves will face two candidates in the GOP primary: John Witcher and David Grady Hardigree. Independent Gwendolyn Gray will also be on the November ballot. The rulings of party executive committees can be appealed in the state judiciary.
