Dem wants renewed probe of big oil

A Senate Democrat critic of the fossil fuel industry plans to use his position atop the Senate Budget Committee to continue investigating big oil’s alleged efforts to mislead the public about the causes/consequences of global warmingSen. Sheldon Whitehouse's (D-RI) inquiry could hinge on whether he can get his hand on internal industry documents obtained Democrats in the previous Congress, which are now in limbo since Republicans are in charge. “We are interested in trying to make sure their work (previous Congress) is not lost,” he told E&E News. Launched by House Oversight and Reform Committee Democrats in 2021, the probe has been on ice since the party lost its majority. The investigation forced oil companies and trade associations to testify under oath about climate change and shined light on how the groups were concerned about maintaining public support for fossil fuels while minimizing their vulnerability to a growing wave of climate litigation. (E&E News 02/13/23) Senate poised to revive probe of Big Oil climate claims - E&E News (eenews.net)
