NIST seeks noms to IoT board

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has issued a call for nominations to serve on the inaugural internet of things advisory boardThe IoTAB would provide advice to the IoT federal working group on identification of any federal statutes, regulations, budgetary challenges and other sector-specific policies that could impede IoT development; challenges and opportunities related to the use of IoT technologies by small businesses, according to a notice published Jan. 13. The 16-member board would advise on situations in which the use of IoT is likely to bring societal and economic benefits to the U.S., including smart traffic and transit technologies; health care; public safety; supply chains and augmented logistics; precision agriculture; environmental monitoring; and sustainable infrastructure. The board will submit a report with recommendations and findings to the federal working group. The secretary of commerce will appoint board members, who will serve two-year terms. Nominations are due Feb. 28.
